• Key Stage 2: Years 3-6, ages 8-11
Education and Faith
Although Fletewood School provides a Christian education, it welcomes students of all faiths and none. It is a small school with small classes which enables students to have more one-on-one time with their teachers. Fletewood School is known for its culturally diverse enrolment and family-like atmosphere. Fletewood prides itself on providing a warm, caring environment for its students and on prioritising the social, spiritual, emotional and academic development.
The school values of Compassion, Co-operation, Happiness, Resilience and Respect can be felt throughout the school and are modelled and instilled in the children by the dedicated staff. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and has been customised to reflect the interests and backgrounds of its pupils, to provide a diverse range of exciting experiences and to support the aims and values of the school. Academically, the school is known particularly for music and supporting children with the 11+, and the curriculum also includes humanities, science, physical education, religious education, art, maths, English, Spanish and computing.
History
The school was founded in September 1919 at the Conference Hall, Old Town Street in Plymouth, led by teacher, Miss Middleton. The school catered for children aged 4 to 11. By the end of the term, however, the school had secured a more permanent home at 19 Greenbank Avenue. In 1929, Plymouth Church and school moved once again into a large house, this time Fletewood House, in what was then North Road, and is now known as North Road East. The school has remained on these premises ever since.
Fletewood School has gone from strength to strength, expanding down into the basement in the 1990s to allow for a new nursery class, and then up into the loft in 2012 to create even more useable space. Today, the school caters for children aged 2 to 11 years and welcomes children from all backgrounds. We would love to welcome you, too.
